Improv Workshop in Prague - Transformace Improvizace Levitace Konotace

In my old Alma Matter (DAMU - Academy of Performing Arts in Prague), I lead a two-day theatre workshop titled: Transformace Improvizace Levitace Konotace aneb divadelni dilna pro nadsence

(The realization that even though the title is in Czech, an English speaker will understand its meaning; courtesy of Latin, makes feel good.)

I spent an utterly inspiring time working with a group of creative, engaged, and skilled Improv actors from Šikana, the Improv team. It has been a while since I worked with theatre people, and I enjoyed it immensely. It was a comfort of common language and passion for creating that supported the workshop flow and turned the weekend into a special event. I brought a wealth of experience with theatre games and exercises, with devising and story-telling methods that the group dived in to enrich their repertoire and jell as an ensemble.

Community Arts in Toronto

With the spring wind, I moved to Toronto. Thank you, my Los Angeles community for support and for inspiration that you became for me over the three years. I am taking the stories and shared pieces of knowledge with me to my next creative endeavours in Toronto and beyond.

Materstina - Zaciname! Mother Tongue - Started!

We started to get together and tell stories about the ups and downs of raising children with mother tongue, which is not shared in the community at large and many times even not with the partner at home. So far, I have been grateful to mothers Petra, Martina, Dasa, and Misa for sharing their thoughts and stories.
Working on connecting with Vladka, Dasa, and Martina in the Valley. I hope other moms and dads will join.  
Also, I am looking for a male voice and a multi-generational voice for my project.
Themes are starting to emerge and creative ideas are flowing....... am anxious to share some more.

Začli jsme se scházet  a vyprávět příběhy o tom jaké máme slasti a startosti s českou výchovou dětí, když často ani partner doma česky nemluví a nerozumí.

Zatím chci poděkovat Petře, Martině, Dáše a Míše a těším se na příští setkání. Doufám, že se přidají další a budeme se rozrůstat. Taky se snažím spojit s Marcelou, Vladkou a Dášou ve Valley.

Dále hledám muže - otce, kteří by se chtěli zůčastnit a také lidi starší, abych rozšířila perspektivu projektu.

Už se začínají se rýsovat témata, která rozvíjejí mojí kreativitu a začínám psát scénář. Už se těším, až budu moci napsat vice.

Mandalas - realization

Saturday, Jan 19, a gorgeous blue day, my friend Helga and I were up in Topanga Canyon bright and early to welcome participants for our mandala workshop at Tara Sanctuary. The guitar tuned, drums ready and all attuned.


Unfortunately, one by one, participants who were confirmed, dropped out, and we ended up with no one. ... However, the atmosphere was still very good and we were determied and ready to have a great creative day. Azita, the owner of Tara Sanctuary invited us to her house to facilitate our workshop there. She invited her family and friends and with our drummer and ourselves, we became a fabulous circle of people for the process of creating mandala.

Helga guided us through the creative arts process - each layer of mandala represented different aspect of relationship to ourselves, our place on Earth, and our higher spiritual selves.

Through meditation, chanting and singing, we opened spiritual channels and tapped into both our creativity and our intuition, which supported the drawing. The process of creating mandala starts from the individual small circular mandala (what do we need to accept as individuals?) on the outer edge of the big mandala and flows through negotiating boundaries with our neighbours into the universal, unconditional love and light in the center of Mandala.

Then, after spending a day immersed in the world of symbols, colours, intuitive messages, singing, chanting, and talking about deep spiritual connections, the mandala was born. From the paper, we ironed the Mandala of Acceptance onto a fabric banner and decided to dedicate it to Tara Sanctuary.

May Tara Sanctuary prosper and enjoy positive energy, may it always attract people that will bring love and peace.

Vážení čeští přátelé!

·         Mluvíte doma více jazyky a vaše děti vyrůstají ve vícejazyčném prostředí?

·         Chtěli byste se podělit o své zkušenosti a příběhy s dalšími rodiči / prarodiči?

·         Chcete přispět k rozvoji české slovesné kultury v Los Angeles?

Obracím se na vás s informací o uměleckém projektu Mateřština, během kterého se společně s vámi a dalšími českými rodiči, kteří vychovali nebo vychovávají své děti ve vícejazyčných rodinách v Los Angeles, budeme scházet při vyprávění. Během těchto vyprávění nasbíráme vaše vzpomínky, příběhy a zkušenosti. Tyto příběhy sestavíme do komponovaného pořadu/představení, který budeme prezentovat české komunitě.

Mám také zájem spolupracovat s prarodiči a dospělými, kteří ve vícejazyčném prosředí vyrostli.

Jmenuji se Pavla Uppal – studovala jsem herectví a Dramatickou výchovu na DAMU v Praze a posléze pedagogiku a Aplikované divadlo v Torontu a v New Yorku. Divadelní formy používám k práci s lidmi ve skupinách a komunitách, a divadlo chápu jako prostředek lidské komunikace a sdílení.

Záměr / kulturní context projektu

Slovesná kultura je součástí národní kultury národa – vyprávění příběhu kolem stolu, při práci, či u táborových ohňů, má v Česku dlohou tradici.

Česká menšina v LA, která je vytržena z kulturního zázemí České republiky má také svou slovesnost (kolektivní i individualní zážitky a příběhy), kterou chci svým projektem zaznamenat. Věřím, že vyprávění, sdílení, a následná archivace příběhů obohatí českou menšinu v LA, že přispěje k vytvoření kvalitních mezilidských vztahů uvnitř komunity, a že umocní vědomí české menšiny o její osobité roli, kterou zaujímá v kultuře jak České republiky, tak i Spojených států. 

Návrh uskutečnění projektu

Projekt bude mít tři fáze:

1: Během projektu Mateřština budu formou vypravěčských setkání sbírat příběhy, zkušenosti a vzpomínky inspirované různými tématy a otázkami, které účastníci projektu budou sdílet. Příběhy zaznamenám psanou formou a také nahráváním (audio i video). Dále budu sbírat materiál, který s tématem výchovy dětí v cizojazyčném prostředí souvisí – výtvarné materiály, fotografie, objekty, apod.

2: Z těchto nasbíraných příběhů chci vytvořit představení, které bude prezentováno české komunitě v LA a popřípadě dalším českým komunitám v USA. Konečná verze představení vyplyne z toho, jakou formu ji budou chtít dát účastníci projektu, ale pro účel tohoto návrhu, definuji představení jako večer čtení příběhů spojené s výstavou nasbírané kolaže materiálu – jako například video záznamy, nahraná vyprávění, či dětské povídání, výtvarné materiály související s projektem, apod. Představení by mělo mít neformalní charakter a stát se pozvánkou a prostorem k dalšímu povídání a sdílení mezi diváky.

3: Závěrečná fáze projektu spočívá v archivaci slovesného materiálu formou písemnou a audiovizuální.

MANDALAS - A JOURNEY OF ACCEPTANCE 

 

CREATIVE ARTS WORKSHOP WITH DANCES OF UNIVERSAL PEACE AND MEDITATION

Together, we will create communal mandalas, an ancient visual spiritual teaching tool that maps the journey of energy into the material world. Using both individual intentions of your choice and a collective one, we will create a mandala with a similar format to the one above. Using fabric crayons on paper we will illustrate this journey, and transferring it onto a banner- we will offer it to the recipient of the participants’ choice. A "mandala offering" in Tibetan Buddhism is a symbolic offering of the entire universe. Supported by theatre exercises, meditation, and the Dances of Universal Peace.

     The Dances of Universal Peace are simple, meditative, and joyous circle dances. They use sacred phrases, chants, movements, and music from the world’s wisdom traditions.

Helga Schleeh ,BFA,  has given workshops and talks on peace and creativity at such places as the United Nations in New York, Italy, the Bahamas, Newfoundland, Montreal, New Hampshire, Virginia,  Ontario, etc, and exhibited in over 50 exhibitions as far away as Beijing.
